Signs of Summer

Seems like this year at Holden Beach the signs of summer are literally, signs. A new restaurant, a new art gallery and a new gift shop.

Let’s start with the food: Provision Co. owner, Cory Jones has opened a new restaurant on the causeway called Main Street Grill and Rotisserie. The location has been a restaurant for years, but never like this. Cory  completely gutted the interior, including the kitchen. The colors are muted, the bar area is huge and the dining room is very comfortable with booths arranged to give the diners privacy. Cozy enough for a romantic dinner, but also great for vacationing families. Check out more on Main Street Grill and Rotisserie here.

KD Morris Art Gallery: Artist Kelly Morris has been a resident of Holden Beach for several years. She and husband David retired from their teaching positions near DC and moved permanently to what had been their second home at the beach. Kelly is now a full-time artist and after a few years of traveling to art shows up and down the east coast, she has decided to stay put on beautiful Holden Beach and let the art lovers travel to her. Her shop is well worth a visit. She is open 11am to 7pm Tues – Sat. and has wine tastings on Wednesday nights. You can find Kelly’s special events listed on our Events Calendar.

New gift shop: we’ve curiously watched the transformation of an old beach house in the very small commercial district of Holden Beach over the last few days. SugarBritches is now open for business. With a little paint and creative hammering, owner, Jenny Oosterwyk has transformed the long-empty once-upon-a-time real estate building into a very cute t-shirt and accessory shop. You can’t go home without a Holden Beach T-shirt, but you once in the store, you may decide you have to the pajamas and a piece of jewelry with a little Holden Beach sand to remind you of your summer vacation. Sugarbritches is open Mon. – Sat. from 10′ish to 5:30′ish. (that’s Holden Beach Time)

Sunset Slush: if you’ve spent much time at Sunset Beach or Ocean Isle in the past few years you have most likely had a taste of Italian Ice from one of the Sunset Slush stores or their push carts on the beaches. This spring Donald and Susan Sellars opened the Sunset Slush of Holden Beach. A few coats of yellow paint gave an old building a sunny disposition and new purpose. Stop by Sunset Slush, get yourself a cup of Italian Ice and enjoy it in outside on the new deck.
